'Friends' Actress Who Played Baby Emma Hilariously Responds to Viral 2020 Meme

January 3, 2020

"Hi Emma. It's the year 2020. Are you still enjoying your nap?"

That “Friends” quote was said in 2003 and now, baby Emma has finally awoken from her slumber.

If you've seen the quote making its way around social media following the start of 2020, there’s a very good reason for it.

Fans of the hit show will immediately recognize it from the episode titled “The One with the Cake.”

During the episode, Ross (David Schwimmer) and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) gather their friends to celebrate their daughter Emma's 1st birthday.

They film a video for her to watch on her 18th birthday, but naturally, toddler Emma dozes off and sleeps through the whole thing prompting the snarky remark from Chandler (Matthew Perry).

"We're Aunt Monica and Uncle Chandler, by the way – you may not recognize us because we haven't spoken to your parents in 17 years," an irritated Monica (Courtney Cox) adds before Chandler reveals the reason for their attitude: "We used to be married but then we missed a weekend away together and things kind of unravelled… Because of you!"

Fast-forward to 2020: the moment is a viral meme, and baby Emma is old enough to respond.

Noelle Sheldon, one of the twins who played Emma, tapped into the fun on her Instagram page much to the delight of fans.

On New Year’s Day, she posted a photoshopped photo of herself against the backdrop of the show’s beloved coffee hangout, Central Perk, while holding the signature coffee mug.

She captioned the photo, “Just woke up from the best nap of all time, happy 2020!! (ft. my poorly done photoshop) Hope everyone has an excellent year full of family, friends, and laughter!!”

While her on-screen parents and on-screen aunt and uncle haven’t responded to the hilarious post, her real-life twin sister, Cali Sheldon, acknowledged that it was the longest nap by commenting, “Finally.”

If you’ve been wondering what Emma (Noelle) has been up to, well, she took a break from acting (probably to take that 17-year long nap) for a while before returning to the screen to star in Jordan Peele’s thriller, “Us,” as Lindsey Tyler / Nix alongside her twin sister.
