Katie Couric Honors Late Husband on What Would Have Been His 64th Birthday

January 10, 2020

Katie Couric posted a sentimental series of photos in honor of what would have been her late husband's 64th birthday.

According to Today, Jay Monahan died of colon cancer in 1998. Monahan left behind his wife and their two daughters, Carrie and Ellie.

Couric posted the tribute to her Instagram page, writing, “We love you and miss you everyday.”

Couric's entire caption read: "John Paul Monahan III January 9, 1956-January 24, 1998. Jay, we love you and miss you every day. On this day, we celebrate what would have been your 64th birthday. ❤️ You completed our January trifecta of bdays...the 5th, the 7th and the 9th. There must be something cosmic about that. You live on in your girls and in our hearts. 'Love is really the only thing we can possess, keep with us and take with us.' -Elisabeth Kubler-Ross"

The former Today co-host also shared a heartfelt message to Instagram for her husband on what would have been their 30th wedding anniversary.

"Dear Jay...It’s June 10th 2019 and today would have been our 30th anniversary,'' she wrote. "I hope you would be proud of the way I’ve lived my life and know you’d be proud of your girls who have grown into incredible young women.”

Couric remarried to financier John Molner in 2014.
