Vogue to Honor Canceled Met Gala with Special Livestream featuring Florence + The Machine

May 3, 2020

The first Monday in May is usually reserved for the biggest night in fashion.

But like most events, this year the annual star-studded Met Gala was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

To make sure fashionistas aren’t completely deprived of style content, Vogue will host a special YouTube livestream featuring musical performances and an address by the magazine’s legendary editor, Anna Wintour.

“A Moment With the Met,” will include a live performance by Florence + The Machine and a DJ set by Virgil Abloh, who is the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear division.

The livestream begins Monday at 6pm ET on Vogue’s YouTube channel.

“It would be impossible to recreate the gala on Monday evening, though I have loved hearing how so many are marking the occasion in their own ways,” Wintour said in a statement. “So instead, I asked a few friends to join me for a simple moment—one that I hope will bring us all a bit of joy.”

Prior to the livestream, Vogue will look back at red carpet highlights from past Met Galas.

In addition, fashion icons such as Naomi Campbell, Cardi B and Stella McCartney will give insight on the Met Gala’s history and influence in a series of videos.

"Pose" star Billy Porter - who is known for his bold red carpet statements - has started the #MetGalaChallenge, which urges fans to re-create their favorite past Met Gala red carpet look at home and share it on Instagram.

Porter and Vogue will then pick their favorites and selected submissions will be featured on @voguemagazine, @metmuseum, and @metcostumeinstitute Instagram pages.

Prior to the cancelation, Meryl Streep, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emma Stone were on board to host the 2020 Met Gala.
